The main point of Don't Starve couldn't be any more simpler than the two words that make up the title.
Starting off, you play as Wilson (a Scientist) who is trapped by a demon named Maxwell, who sends him to an alternate world. Maxwell's only advice for Wilson is to find food before dark.

The game play goes a little like this:
Daylight: Find food, find materials, make scientific machines, etc.
Night: Set up campfire, gather more materials, make weapons, fight off monsters, and feed the fire until daylight
Repeat.

While I'm not much into survival games, I thoroughly enjoy playing this game. The overall look of the game can be best described as a Tim Burton pop-up book, which makes even pretty flowers look threatening. It's extremely thrilling to run around the mysterious forests, jump through wormholes (which take you to secluded places on the map), explore caves, and enjoy the lovely scenery.
Sadly, the games lack of direction, lack of narrative, and repetitive music leave much room for improvement.

Don't Starve is an Indie game developed by Klei Entertainment, and can be purchased for $14.99 on Steam. The game is still in its Beta, however, once you purchase the game, all future updates are free for you to download. Klei Entertainment has promised substantial improvements in the next six months. Hopefully these "improvements" don't take away  from the game.

Don't Starve is a game that isn't very rewarding. You'll spend countless hours trying to survive in your randomly generated world, gathering food and materials to continue to survive, only to be attacked and killed by a mysterious creature in the middle of the night. There are countless monsters, creatures, and other mysterious things to ruin all of your "fun". Believe me when I say that once it's "Game Over", it's really GAME OVER

When you die (it's inevitable), you'll start back at Day 1. You'll lose all of the abilities you've worked so hard for, and the only thing you'll keep is the experience you've gotten from your countless hours of dedication, and the characters you've unlocked along the way.

If you decide to purchase Don't Starve, don't be pushed away by the beginning levels. Look at all of the repetitive actions as a learning experience for how the game functions and how to perform the same actions more quickly and efficiently.

Just remember, don't starve.
